I’m so proud of you for not holding this in! Damn I’m so happy you picked up your pen! I love you nigga! Keep your head up you are exactly where you are meant to be. I’m learning this for myself. And as a Substack girlie, I’m so happy you are HERE!
I felt a lot of emotions reading this because a lot of points were relatable. I commend you for releasing all of this and not holding it in. You’re absolutely not regular and you’re already a testament to what it means to be real. I’m not looking for perfection out of anyone and I follow you, support you, and share your work because not only are you talented, but you’re REAL. You’re outside with the people. You’re showing what it looks like to be yourself while supporting the people. Shine baby! Life is about living and I’m proud of you for not only choosing to live but to process all of these things and turning your entire story into your reason for being the best you can be. Major love - Dom
Thank you for sharing brother. I appreciate all that you've been giving to the community. You giving not just yourself but parts of your soul. We thank you for all that you're doing and dropping the knowledge. You have been not only an outspoken man for our community before the people. I've always said it's time for the black and the Brown to come back together. I believe you'll help in at least bridging the gap. I appreciate all that you're doing on the grits and eggs platform. May God's continue blessings flourish on all that you do. I'll keep watching you and keep listening.
This actually brought me to tears. I’ve been struggling with a lot of similar feelings lately but I think I’ve turned a corner as well. I was that kid in the gifted program. The kid whose PSAT scores had colleges sending me brochures in the 10th grade. The kid who played piano in church on Sunday morning and made people cry. The kid ALL my teachers (black and white) adored. It feels weird saying that shit because I know it sounds like bragging but I can counter that by telling you it also really sucks to know I’ve been getting in my own way my whole adult life, that I peaked in high school, or maybe my early 20s, despite these gifts. I’m sure that none of my friends or coworkers in real life would ever say or think this about me, but I know I’ve squandered my potential dozens of times. People have projected Black Excellence onto me since I was in preschool. The weight felt heavy. It still does. But I’ve redefined Black Excellence for myself. It’s not a pedestal or a crown (both of which terrify me). Instead it’s the debt I owe to those who came before me. I don’t know why it feels better to think of it like that because “debt” has negative connotations. But it’s a debt of gratitude. And at this point in my life I’m choosing to live in gratitude to my ancestors who never had the chance to be as great as their potential allowed. I hope by me sharing this you or other others in the same boat might find some relief or sense of direction in seeing things this way. We are all SOOOOOO proud of you. You don’t even know how many people you’ve inspired or have yet to inspire. Peace and love.
And this is why you have the following you do!!! Brave, resilient, honest, accountable and revolutionary!
It’s so easy to stay stuck in the mess and make excuses for why we stay there. The comfort we get from knowing how to navigate through tough waters using our defense mechanisms is always an easier pill to swallow then looking into the unknown and taking the leap. Self sabotage creeps in, heavily rooted in trauma. Thank you for sharing your thought! You are not alone ! Know that you have true supporters that uplift you and want to see your flourish! This post is yet another gem from a man that continues to bless us on his revolutionary path to liberation.. May we follow that lead and be honest about who we are, where we come from, what we struggle with and how we overcome
I’m glad you were able to get the words to let this off your chest❤️ it’s deep and raw. I love you for the good, the bad and the ugly and that’s what makes you REAL. You know you and fuck all the people seeing their own projected versions of you they’ve made up. You’re walking with us and we’re walking with you cousin.
I've been in a similar family lie situation where i was the secret being kept, so i can absolutely identify with some of your feelings. Im proud of you for pushing past those big ass feelings and choosing YOU! My nigga, you are a STAR and not in the celebrity since. Like you are actually made of the same components as literally stars. I'm so glad you're giving yourself permission to shine like one. We love you to life cousin!
Thank you for this, I so appreciate your reflection and accountability. I hope you continue to seek clarity, healing and peace in your purpose. You are not alone in the search for your BEST self, TRUST. Wishing you continued compassion and courage on your journey. The revolution truly IS love: of self, of community, and of humanity. Happy to support you 🫶🏾
Thank you for leading by example on how to express yourself and transmute all that was meant and expected to destroy you. You are exactly who you believe yourself to be. We see you cousin and we are so proud and honored to walk this journey with you. Thank you for sharing pieces of yourself with us and for standing on business when so many of our people have fallen to the weight of being "cancelled" and wanting to look "right /politically correct". I love how you say that shit with your whole chest and are a beautiful balance of love for our people and no nonsense. Keep doing what your doing. Looking forward to seeing you walk in your full potential without wavering. I'm continuously rooting for you cousin.
Thank you for sharing this part of you. The emotions that I felt while reading this. I can relate to this all to well. Observing, learning, wanting to be seen and heard etc. This is why I will continue to vibe with you. You are amazing, you are human, you are Deante. ❤️
